Brrrr...It's Cold Outside!
If it's too cold for you it's too cold for them!

With temperatures well below freezing the wind feels like it cuts right through you. If it's too cold for you, it's certainly too cold for your pets. If you have a pet living outside please bring him or her inside. Cocker spaniels are especially susceptible to frostbite on their adorably long floppy ears.
Members of the Michigan Animal Adoption Network have been making rounds in the metro Detroit area providing aid to dogs forced to endure the bitterly cold weather. They provide dog houses, straw, and fresh food and water to dogs living outside. But sometimes their generosity is not enough and pets do freeze to death.
If you must keep your dog outside please ensure your pet has shelter that is
clean
dry
adequately insulated from the cold
When taking your pet outside in freezing temperatures remain with them at all times. Avoid walking your pet over salted sidewalks. This type of salt is often corrosive and can burn skin. Observe your pet for ice forming on its paws. If you notice your dog limp or lick its paws while outside it may be due to ice on its paws. Beware of wind chill. You and your pet can get frostbite anywhere from 5-30 minutes depending on the wind chill.
