Well intentions hinder cocker’s adoption

There’s a story about a cocker spaniel named Batista which is confusing to say the least. The SPCA in Kent county, Delaware sent out an email to various rescues about Batista because his food aggression made adoption challenging. A rescue named Canine Nation mistook Batista’s situation thinking he was in danger of being euthanized and included this in their listing. An Elsmere Delaware resident adopted him then placed him on Craigslist. Her intentions were good. She was fostering him then adopting him out again. Anyways, Canine Nation found out her plans and Batista is back at the Kent County SPCA and available for adoption.

Footnote: I also discovered another adoptable cocker spaniel at the Kent County SPCA. He’s a buff male. No other information is listed. See profile.

  1. Hi, I am intimately familiar with that story. The dog was, in fact, on the weekly “euthanasia list” which the KC SPCA is required by law to circulate to all rescue groups on the registry. I am one of the groups who received the email.

KC SPCA director Murrey Goldthwaite is, once again, trying to sound like the good guy and that his facility doesn’t euthanize dogs. Unless Canine Nation or some other rescue group can get Batista out of there fast he WILL be euthanized. The general public is not allowed to adopt him due to his “issues”. The rescue groups are his only hope, the story failed to mention.

    1. I am happy to report that I picked Batista up from the Kent SPCA on Monday, March 21st as a foster for Canine Nation.
He fit right in to my home with my two other dogs, Mozart and Winston, my cats and my two cockatoos, Molly and Millie.
      I adopted him last night.
He is a sweet dog who wants nothing but love. He sleeps plastered up against me at night and climbs into the shower with me.
He has shown no food aggression whatsoever. He follows me around, makes nice with my dogs and loves to snuggle and be pet.

This story had a happy ending!

      1. What great news! Feel free to send updates on Batista. I’ll be more than happy to post a followup to his story. We have a forum too.

        1. I’ll be happy to! Do I post them here? Could you give me the forum web site?
Batista has some issues, but with time and training, they’ll become a thing of the past.
There was a great article about him in the Dover Post today.
