A buff and white cocker spaniel wound up at the Lincoln County Humane Society. She was found on East Main Street in Merrill on the 4th of July. She has no collar or chip. Please contact (715) 536-3459 for information.
Concerned neighbors witnessed Qihui Zhai savagely beat his cocker spaniel Mookie . Neighbors were alerted by cries coming from the back yard where Zhai beat Mookie repeatedly with a stick for 10 minutes. Neighbors contacted authorities and video recorded the incident. Zhai faces felony animal cruelty charges.
Raisin Tree Farms kennel in Fowlerville was raided Wednesday. Authorities seized over 90 dogs living in overcrowded cages stack on each other. Various breeds including whoodles, standard poodles and Soft-coated Wheaten terriers were found soaked and matted in urine and feces.
Proprietor Margaret Komorny was charged with animal cruelty to 10 or more animals. 76-year-old Komorny denies the charges: “I love animals. I’m devoted to animals,” she said. Michigan has no puppy mill laws and is part of the Midwest “Puppy Mill Belt.”
Ocean County Superior Court Judge James Blaney overturned the 6 month jail sentence in the Sammy cocker spaniel case because the defendant was a diabetic. Instead Keith Morgan received 90 days house arrest and 2 years probation while his wife Shauna received 1 year probation and 30 days community service.
